Britain's Most Admired Charities - Third Sector Magazine Awards



On Tuesday March 16th Mothertongue was invited to Britain's Most Admired Charities Awards. The awards were organised and presented by Third Sector Magazine and hosted and sponsored by Barclays Corporate. They took place on the 30th floor of Barclays Bank in Canary Wharf.

Mothertongue had been nominated and chosen by charity CEOs for the Most Innovative Charity Award. The Awards have been running since 2004 and charities such as London Community Recycling Network and ActionAid have been previous winners.

Mothertongue was a runner up in the category with the overall winner being the St Giles Trust who work with the rehabilitation of prisoners. The other runner up was Mary's Meals which provides a school meals programme in the developing world.

Fareshare, a charity which distributes surplus food to those who need it, won the Most Admired Charity Award. James Partridge won the Most Admired CEO Award for his leadership of the charity Changing Faces, which is dedicated to the cause of equality for people with disfigurements.

The winner of the Celebrity Champion Award was Joanna Lumley for her work ensuring the Gurkhas were able to settle in the UK.

Joanna congratulated Mothertongue on its work and being a runner up in the award. It was a very interesting evening with many charities present and a chance to hear about the work of the third sector.
